Real Event Inspiration: The Islands Come to Windows on Washington

Fall may be in the air, but we are hanging on to the last drops of summer with a look back at one of our favorite summer events with Yadier Molina’s foundation, Fundación 4, an amazing organization focused on improving the quality of life for underprivileged children in Puerto Rico. Fundación 4 wanted to bring their island theme of “Flavors of Puerto Rico” full circle with island-inspired flowers, music, food, and of course, rum! They even brought in sounds of Coquí frogs which are native to and the national animal of Puerto Rico (small island, small frogs, BIG voice!)

We love working with a theme that you can really wrap your arms around, and an island vibe is perfect for that! We were inspired by the vibrant and festive culture of Puerto Rico and focused our design around the colorful flowers, foliage, and tropical elements of the island. Watch the video below to hear more from An Affair to Remember Owner Jody on her inspiration for the event.

Take a look at how we incorporated the island theme into the florals and decor for this event.

The white linens and chairs brought the light, airy beach vibe to the space and provided a perfect contrast with the floral centerpieces.

This fun centerpiece incorporated elephant ears, palm leaves, and a red James Storie orchid for a pop of color.

The tropical floral arrangements brought the whole event to life. We used a combination of tropical palms and leaves, red anthurium, oncidium orchids, birds of paradise, protea, James Storie orchids, Tycoon roses, and orange tiger lilies.

To bring in the feel of Puerto Rico’s national flower, the Flor de Maga, which is closely related to hibiscus, we used a lot of red in the designs and included an orchid on each place setting (as the native flowers are not suited well as a cut flower).

The bars provided amazing opportunities to incorporate the tropical fruit of the island and highlight the rich history of Puerto Rico as the rum capital of the world.

We also brought in silk palm trees to accent the stage and around the room. Did you know we have a whole line of tropical and beach decor rentals?
